Welcome to the computer section, below
is a wealth of useful information for those of who want to buy a new computer
or
even your first computer.
It is approaching the new millenium and
computer technology is advancing faster than you can imagine. The fastest
pc right now
seems to be the AMD Athlon running at a
proccessor speed of 1GHz with the help of an included refrigeration unit
which cools
it to -40 degrees C. However, at around
$6000 US not many of would actually buy one. A more sensible choice would
be a
low cost AMD K6-2, Pentium 2, AMD K6-3, AMD K7 or Pentium3 CPU.
Now that I've given you these options, which one should you chose?
In terms of popularity Intel
proccessors take the cake. Intel has been around for a while and has swallowed
most of the
industry. There is great product support and and the quality and performance
are excellent.
Nevertheless, the newer company
AMD has been hot on the heels of Intel. They offer lower cost proccessors
with similar
performance in most areas.
AMD K6 Vs Pentium II
If you want a computer for mainly office
applications you want to go with an Intel PII proccessor -it has been found
that these
proccessors outperform the AMD in these
areas. However, if you are a gaming fanatic, certain benchmark tests(eg.
Quake 3
test) show the AMD to be better of the two for 3D gaming.
AMD K7 Vs Pentium 3
Recent tests have shown the Pentium III
Proccessor to be superior to the AMD K7 in both office applications and
3D gaming.
However, Some 3D games run better with
the AMD proccessor. At higher resolutions both proccessors have been found
to
deliver closer and closer performances to each other.
VERDICT?(PII Vs AMD)
If you want a cheap and reliable pc go with
the AMD K6-2 or AMD K6-3, but you tried and tested performance and quality
by all means fork out the cash and buy
a Pentium II. Performances are practically the same but the AMD does seem
to have to have a slight advantage in graphics.
VERDICT?(PIII Vs AMD K7)
Although the AMD is considerably cheaper the PIII
has the overall edge and it won't really burn your pocket,as computer
prices continue to fall with the onset
of rapidly rising proccessor speed, memory enhancements and remember that
it's most
likely that any computer you buy now will be a has been within months.
